Upright vacuums are a common choice for household cleaning chores, but there’s nothing common about the Kenmore Elite 31150. This pet-friendly vacuum cleaner is arguably the best bagged upright model on the market in 2020. It has better suction, better filtration and more innovative features than its major competitors such as Dyson and Hoover.

We’ve reviewed all aspects of this Kenmore product and we didn’t find many reasons to be critical about this machine. In our review below, we’ll look at all of its main features and examine its pros and cons, but for an affordably priced vacuum on Amazon, this is easily the best value for money we’ve found in the bagged upright vacuum category.

The Kenmore Elite 31150 Vacuum at a Quick Glance

There aren’t many products we’ve felt comfortable recommending in our vacuums for pet hair section at Spotless Mag, but in our Kenmore Elite 31150 reviews, we were blown away with what we found. This model uses three different motors, including a beltless inducer motor, to generate more suction than any other bagged upright vacuum on the market today.

Most vacuums promise to deep clean your carpets, but this one really delivers. It actually agitates the carpet in front of it forcing deep ground-in debris to the surface that it easily removes. The 31150 even has a LED indicator dirt sensor that lights up to let you know that there’s dirt present and only turns off once all of the debris is cleaned up. It’s a feature we haven’t seen before in similar models.

While our review of this Kenmore vacuum was mostly positive, there were a couple of things we didn’t like. For one thing, this is a heavy vacuum at 20 pounds. That wouldn’t be a major issue if you were able to remove the cleaning canister to clean on stairs, but you can’t. If you have any kind of physical limitations you will have trouble using this vacuum to clean on the stairs.

One other thing that disappointed us with the 31150 is that it doesn’t have a swiveling head, so if you have any tightly packed areas of furniture you may have trouble navigating around it. Several other vacuums we’ve reviewed at Spotless Mag do include this feature. The Moosoo XL-618A is a great example.

A User-Friendly Bagged Vacuum Cleaner

Now that we’ve looked at what we don’t like about the Kenmore Elite 31150 in this review, let’s take a closer look at what we do like. Aside from the minor issues we’ve noted this is one of the most user-friendly affordable upright vacuum cleaners available on Amazon.

The dirt sensor system we’ve already looked at it, but it deserves mentioning again. It’s something that isn’t found on many vacuums and it really takes the guesswork out of cleaning. You don’t have to wonder if you’ve fully cleaned an area of your floor – you know exactly when you’re done.

We were also pleased to discover that the 31150 has a 35-foot cord – that’s one of the longest cords on any vacuum we’ve reviewed. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to scramble to find an extension cord for cleaning large rooms.

The Bagged Upright Kenmore Elite Pet-Friendly 31150 Vacuum Outperforms the Competition

Industry Leading Suction – As we’ve already noted in this review the Kenmore Elite 31150 has elite level suction capabilities. It uses a beltless inducer motor system that creates as much as 20 percent more suction than its primary competition. Few vacuums can compare to this model in cleaning capabilities because of its powerful suction capabilities.

Pet-Friendly Cleaning System – Great suction isn’t the only reason this Kenmore vacuum is great for cleaning pet hair and dander. It also comes with a Pet Handi-mate tool for cleaning difficult to remove pet hair from furniture. This brush has an air-driven turbine that spins the roller brushes at high rpm’s collecting everything in its path.

Effective HEPA Filtration System – HEPA filtration systems are relatively common these days, but not all of them are as effective as advertised. The problem usually has more to do with leakage from the collection canister than it does from the ineffective nature of the filter itself. The Kenmore 31150 has almost no leakage at all, making it one of the best vacuums on the market for allergy sufferers.

Filtered Bags – While we prefer bagless designs because of the convenience of not having to shop for vacuum bags on a regular basis, Kenmore bags are pretty good. The compatible replacement bags for the 31150 actually have their own built-in filter and they’re airtight, so very little debris escapes when you change bags.

The Kenmore Elite 31150 Upright Vacuum is a Durable Machine

We were a little disappointed with the 1-year warranty included with this vacuum, but Kenmore has built a great product that’s designed to last. The filtration system is tightly sealed with no leaks and the body is durable and sturdy. You may not get the longest warranty with this machine, but you can still be confident of many years of worry-free use.

Comparing the Kenmore Elite 31150 Vacuum to the Kenmore 31140

The Kenmore Elite 31150 and 31140 are similar machines. They both include HEPA filters and have powerful suction capabilities, but the 31150 is just a little bit better in most categories. The 31150 has an improved 35-foot cord compared to the 30-foot cord on the 31140. It also has 5 different height positions to choose from, while the 31140 only has 4.

The Elite 31150 also has a couple of features that simply aren’t included with the 31140. It has an LED dirt sensor that actually lets you know when the dirt is present. It also has a powerful inducer motor that gives it extra suction capabilities.
